Setting Up a Custom Domain

Overview

By default, your Savantly profile is accessible at https://[your-subdomain].savantly.ai. With a custom domain, you can use your own branded URL — for example, https://profile.yourcompany.com or https://yourname.com — making your profile feel like a fully owned web property.

Custom domain setup uses Cloudflare for SaaS, which provides automatic SSL certificates, fast global delivery, and simple DNS configuration.

Prerequisites

• A Pro or Business Savantly subscription
• A domain you own and have DNS management access to (via Namecheap, GoDaddy, Cloudflare, Route 53, etc.)

Step 1: Add Your Custom Domain

1. Navigate to Settings → Domain Verification (/domain-verification).
2. Click + Add Custom Domain.
3. Enter your domain (e.g., profile.yourcompany.com or yourname.com).
4. Click Add Domain.

Savantly will show you the DNS records you need to configure.

Step 2: Configure DNS Records

You'll need to add a CNAME record pointing your domain to Savantly's infrastructure.

If using Cloudflare (recommended)

1. Log in to your Cloudflare dashboard.
2. Select your domain.
3. Go to DNS → Records.
4. Click Add Record.
5. Configure:

• Type: CNAME
• Name: profile (or @ for root domain)
• Target: sites.savantly.ai
• Proxy status: Proxied (orange cloud — this enables automatic SSL)

1. Click Save.

With Cloudflare proxy enabled, SSL is automatically handled. No additional SSL configuration is needed.

If using another DNS provider

1. Log in to your DNS provider.
2. Add a new CNAME record:

• Host/Name: profile (or the subdomain you want, e.g., www)
• Value/Target: sites.savantly.ai
• TTL: 3600 (or Auto)

1. Save the record.

Note: For root domains (e.g., yourcompany.com without www), some DNS providers don't support CNAME records at the root. Use a subdomain like www.yourcompany.com or profile.yourcompany.com, or use a DNS provider that supports CNAME flattening (like Cloudflare).

Step 3: Verify Your Domain

1. After adding the DNS record, return to Settings → Domain Verification in Savantly.
2. Find your domain in the list.
3. Click Verify Domain.
4. Savantly checks that the DNS record is correctly configured.

DNS propagation time: Changes can take anywhere from a few minutes to 48 hours to propagate worldwide. If verification fails immediately, wait 15–30 minutes and try again.

Step 4: Confirm Your Custom Domain is Live

Once verified:

1. Open a browser and navigate to your custom domain (e.g., https://profile.yourcompany.com).
2. Your Savantly profile should load with your branding.
3. The URL bar should show a padlock (🔒) indicating a valid SSL certificate.

If using Cloudflare proxy: SSL is automatic. ✓
If not using Cloudflare: You may need to configure an SSL certificate through your DNS provider. Contact [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]) if you need assistance.

Managing Multiple Domains

• Pro plan: Up to 3 custom domains
• Business plan: Up to 10 custom domains

All connected domains point to the same profile. Use multiple domains if:

• You want both www.yourcompany.com and yourcompany.com to work
• You operate in multiple countries with country-specific TLDs
• You're managing multiple brands under one Savantly organization

To view and manage all connected domains:

1. Go to Settings → Domain Verification.
2. See the full list with their verification statuses.

Removing a Custom Domain

1. Go to Settings → Domain Verification.
2. Find the domain to remove.
3. Click Remove (or the trash icon).
4. Confirm the deletion.
5. Remove the CNAME record from your DNS provider (optional but recommended for clean DNS).

Redirecting Your Old URL

After setting up your custom domain, visitors may still reach your old savantly.ai subdomain. To redirect them:

1. In your DNS provider, set up a redirect from your old domain to your new custom domain (many DNS providers support URL redirects natively).
2. Update your email signatures, social profiles, and marketing materials to use the new URL.

Troubleshooting

"Domain not verified" after adding DNS records

• Wait 15–60 minutes for DNS propagation
• Double-check the CNAME record value is exactly sites.savantly.ai
• Ensure there are no conflicting A records for the same hostname

SSL certificate error (padlock not shown)

• If using Cloudflare proxy: ensure the proxy (orange cloud) is enabled
• If not using Cloudflare: verify SSL is enabled at your DNS provider
• Contact support if the issue persists after 24 hours

Custom domain shows wrong profile

• Ensure the domain was added to the correct Savantly account/organization
• Check that no other Savantly account has the same domain registered
